Why doesnt' my computer screen work at start up?

I switch on my screen then my computer. The computer makes all the correct noises but nothing appears on the screen. If I leave it running for 10 minutes and switch off then switch on again the screen works. It will then stay on all day. Any ideas? Thanks

either it means that your video card is starting to go out ( can buy one to put in pci slots) or means boaard depending on year most prob could be video card
