Can I use my Compaq Presario 1200US as a desktop computer (without the LCD)?

The LCD does not work, I 'm not sure if it is a light switch or money or whatever. The case is out and I want another computer in the guest room without additional investment.

Sure. Go to BIOS and set LCD display only recognize their external monitor. Function as an office for the time. To turn off the LCD and use the external monitor may have reduced the heat generated when the LCD is turned on and the lid is closed. A replacement LCD off eBay is not as expensive. You can replace only the elimination of between 6 and 10 screws and not open the main body of the laptop.
