Flex Signal Cable
Flex Signal Cable

Are Cable Modem provider specfic?
We have 2 computers in the house. One has a direct cable link to the computer while the other uses a WiFi connection. Due to the layout of the apt., the WiFi connected PC suffers from signal flex to the point that the connection drops to being unusable. The cable company wants $40.00 mo. for an additional cable modem. Are cable modems specific to the company or can I get a generic cable modem and hook it to our cable and get an internet connection which would give us a steady solid connection?
Forget the cable modem and buy yourself a router
EDIT: You get another modem, you PAY another bill! Get a router and connect it to the modem and split the connection by running a network cable from the router to the wireless pc. It makes for the best connection anyway. Wireless sucks and buying your own modem is NOT going to work! You WOULD have to pay a second cable bill to connect it!
