Troubleshooting power for a Toshiba Satellite laptop?

I recently bought an old Toshiba laptop Satellite 2180CDT on eBay. It came with the original cable, so I'm using a 30V AC adapter has been around the house. However, I can not Portable to start. Even plugged in, no "power" light comes on, so I do not think you power. It is a good start as I plugged a lamp too. The seller said it worked very well when I bought it, but did not respond to why it is customary to light. Any suggestions as to why it does not work? Toshiba Laptop Power work with a battery flat (as it could be a problem - the seller was not sure if the battery is fine).

Hey. First, make sure the volts and amplifiers are the same for the laptop - they should be. If that fails, I would like with the battery and then try to restart the computer with cable plugged in. If all else fails, you can buy a multimeter from Radio Shack or electronics store and use it to see if the adapter is pulling the right amount of energy. Many times, places, might even try for you.
