Choosing a 40-46" LCD TV among limited choices?

I have some of those credit card loyalty points. Im moving to a new house and need a new TV. I have a "free" choice of TVs using points (ok, not really free but u know...). I don't have enough points for the best choice, a 46 inch LED LCD, so Im choosing now between a 46" LCD HDTV and a 40" LED LCD HDTV. Im more or less ignorant of video technology; looking for a strong point of view. Use would be either bedroom or family room with a viewing distance of 10-15'. Here is the description on the loyalty points site:

Samsung is a better choice, you can sit closer to it, because the resolution is the same pon both, but the pixels on the 40 will be smaller. Plus, when you sit a distance away, 6 inches doesn't make a huge difference. plus, the LED is REALLY nice anyway
