Could someone recommend a universal knowledge, a good remote to control the new 37 "Olevia LCD TV.?

I just buying a new Olevia 37 "LCD TV HDMI and learned that my current decoder, it does not work the TV volume. The Cable Co., said that simply using the TV volume and distance of the remote for everything else .... Bad idea! Can anyone recommend a reasonable price for learning universal remote that is compatible with a Syntax Olevia TV? Thank you for any help you can provide.
