Scrapbooking confusion?

For those of you laptop (and slightly more advanced than me lol) When you have a printed paper 12 x 12 sheets, which is the best thing to do when putting the pictures in it? You should put a border, a colored background behind the stereotypes and triggers my back? What about using stickers? Must also be placed on a sheet of white paper? I'm confused.

When I use a background pattern, I always picture my mate (usually always kills me my pictures, but it is a necessity for benchmarks).
