New hard drive for a Dell Latitude D600?

I have owned this computer for a while and now that you have not really used all around one year (I had to buy for college, but transferred to a new business department. Dosn't required) anyway and the disk drive has failed a few months ago and as I was using my computer but now I would like the opportunity to have a new laptop. I wondered if I bought the original hard disk had all that I to do is connect and the computer works perfectly. This is a Hitachi Travel Star One. Also, if there are other discs that are compatible with that would they? Also, because the equipment is so old, I was wondering if its even worth buying a new hard disk and not to mention a new battery (Broke too)? The life of the equipment still works well, except these 2 things and all I'd be using it daily commands, such as surf the net, work in Word, Excel, etc ... There are no hardcore games or something.

Any standard 2.5 "laptop hard disk should work the D600, if it is a standard ATA hard drive and not a SATA drive.
