Petrol lawnmower - how does the cord/spinner assembly connect to the motor?
I’ve have a petrol lawnmower but the cord completely jammed. I removed the cord/spinner assembly and fixed the problem but I’m not understanding how this assembly connects or operates with the motor. I initially was thinking that another cord or cable must run from the assembly to the motor in some way but there isn’t anything. If I just rivet back the assembly, will the mover work? I just don’t get how it all works.
HOW IT WORKS: There is a spring loaded reel and some ratchet dogs. When the cord is pulled the engine shaft is turned and when the engine starts the spring pulls the cord back to its initial position. The ratchets make the shaft turn but let go when the engine starts.
HOW TO FIX: The end of the cord (not the side near the handle) is supposed to go into a hole in the spinner that is attached to the ending. Then the cord is wound around that reel so that the handle you pull is tight against the outside of the reel.
See if there is an online parts list from the lawnmower maker that shows how it should look.
