Can I hook up my PS3 to my Dell XPS 1530 using an HDMI cable?

I have an HDMI input on my laptop and figured I could hook up my PS3 to my laptop using an HDMI cable. So, I changed my PS3 settings to HDMI and plugged it in and nothing happened, what am I doing wrong? Or can I just not do it at all?

That HDMI port on your laptop is NOT an input port. It's an output port. It is used to hook your laptop up to external HD devices such as Televisions.
The PS3's HDMI port is also an output port.
You were trying to put 2 outputs together!

PS3 Output + Laptop Output = No Input.

It wont work. Your laptop's HDMI port needs to input the PS3. It wont do that. Sorry.
