How to connect to the laptop Sony Bravia LCD TV with an HDMI cable?

I have a Sony Bravia LCD TV KLV-s550a and Lenovo N500 laptop.I tried HDMI output to connect the laptop to the HDMI input on the TV. After connecting the laptop is empty. A television screen message "Unsupported signal. Check the output device." I tried to use all resolutions available on my laptop. but the same result. I'm really desperate to get this work .. please help
