The compaq is an older one that I am trying to install a new hard drive on.?
I can get into the Bios, but it does not allow me to change the boot order so it will boot from the oem cd to load the operating system. Have tried just about everything. It is an older pc prior to 2002 and uses F10 to get into the Bios. Allows me to set the time, but not boot order.
Which version of Windows are you trying to reload. If it is Windows XP, you can download a boot disk that uses floppies at "http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310994" I believe you need 6 floppy disk.
I would test to see if your computer even looks for the floppy disk first by inserting any floppy disk and then rebooting your computer. You will see an error like "system not found" or "NTLDR not found" which means the computer is looking for the floppy first, which is good.
I don't see why you can't change the boot order though, strange, Trying looking for something like "Boot" or "Boot Device Priority"
