What is the longest lasting brand and model of Laptop excluding the ruggedized ones?

Sometimes they have overheating issues, sometimes the screen light goes out in no time at all. What is the best brand and model not including the ruggedized kinds usually used by military or construction companies?

I was sort of pricing them used on eBay and since I likely won't get a warranty, I just wondered which kind was most durable and really lasts. 2Ghz or higher will do. Thanks for reading.

Your first problem looking for a longest lasting laptop is looking on ebay. The best way to ensure lastability is to treat it well, and if you dont know how it was treated before you owned it, your own efforts might be for nought: get it new and treat it good.

I know what you mean about the overheating but theres no perfect type, only degrees of inevitability. A really thin laptop (I think thats whats technically called notebook) is more likely to heat up fast, but Im not sure what determines the longevity of screens. Mabye the LED screens on some of the 13" models around are better lasting, but theres mixed press on that issue.

All I know about screens is that larger screens use more watts, so will get the battery pack hotter which might heat up components, so try for a small screen. Infact make it easy and get a proven performer like the LED version of Dells XPS M1330 with a newer T8 or T9 series processor, that are 45nm fabrications. Also I think the larger the capacity the hard drive is the hotter it gets, so consider a 160Gb hard drive max. Get a laptop fan or cooling pad. Spend some time googling as much you can find about them. There are stands with and without fans, inert rigid stands designed to just elevate it, and heat absorbtion mats. Thats about it
