Does carrying your laptop in a messenger bag with a magnet front flap damage the laptop?
Its not a power magnet of course, but just an alternative to clips. Should I avoid carrying my laptop in it?
There is a good chance it may damage the laptop if the magnetic field is strong enough, also it depends on the make up of your hard drive, most hard drives may have some magnetic field and any interference from another magnetic field may cause loss of files or damage to the laptop. say for example i read a few stories online of guys/ gals losing files on their laptops when going through an airport scanner.
so best bet is to watch and see if you notice anything unusual about your pc. or just simply not using a magnetic flapped messener bag for your Laptop may be your best bet. better to have all your files than to lost them or better yet lose your laptop entirely
