Is a male to male VGA cable different than SVGA cable?

I just bought a vga cable and it has 14 pins on each side. It's for an lcd. Aside that, I just want to know, is there a difference in cables? SVGA has 15 pins. Why does VGA only have 14?

They're the same.
For resolutions:
VGA=640x480
SVGA=800x600
XGA=1024x768
etc.

But VGA as a connector is a standard. Also, no VGA cables have all the pins. The connector was designed before the standard was formalized.
